Synopsis-

Fungal meningitis is a disease caused by a fungus. It’s a fungal infection that comes from somewhere and spreads in the body affecting the brain or the spinal cord. It could be a life-taking disease if not treated on time. Many times the disease develops from the use of cosmetic products.
In the latest event, a fungal meningitis outbreak has killed four patients from the U.S. and infected more than two dozen people. Sources say the outbreak is linked to cosmetic procedures performed at Mexico clinics that caused this outbreak. It has also been found that around 200 people may have been exposed to the deadly disease across medical clinics, as public health officials have started the investigation to identify and test those at risk.
Dr. Tom Chiller, head of the fungal diseases branch at the CDC, said, “We’re being very aggressive and telling people to go in, yet we’re getting some hesitation on asymptomatic people. This is a serious illness and it can manifest late so you may not feel anything right now.”
Dr. Chiller also said, patient tracking has been difficult as some people gave wrong names and contact numbers. This has also caused the CDC to reach fewer than half of the patients from the U.S.
