It’s rare that an acupuncturist gets into the news and this happened nowhere else, other than in NYC or New York City. He has been charged with performing unlicensed acupuncture after he punctured a woman’s lungs during treatment. This led her to reach the hospital for emergency surgery.
How was the incident reported?
The indictment states that Jiang, 63, was introduced to Lin while seeking assistance for stomach and back discomfort on May 10, 2022, at a doctor’s clinic in Flushing, Queens.
Melinda Katz, Queens District Attorney, said, “Yong De Lin, 66, was arraigned on four criminal charges Monday in connection with unlicensed treatments he performed on 63-year-old Shujuan Jiang between May and October of last year.”
What did Lin, the acupuncturist do to Jiang?
Even though Lin lacks a New York State licence to practise acupuncture and has never even applied for one, he gave Jiang 17 treatments throughout the following few months.
Jiang started to feel unwell during the most recent session on October 28. Lin gave Jiang additional acupuncture and a cupping treatment before sending him home.
Jiang passed out while walking home and fell to the ground. After a passerby dialled 911, Jiang was brought to the hospital, where it was discovered that the acupuncture treatments had caused both of her lungs to collapse. Jiang underwent a life-saving operation and was in the hospital for six days.
Lin was accused of first- and second-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, and unauthorised professional practice. He has to return to court on Wednesday.
