Samsung Unveils its Roadmap to Make World’s Most Advanced Chips in 2025

Synopsis-

“On Wednesday, Samsung Chips Electronics revealed its blueprint for the expansion of its chip manufacturing business, comprising semiconductors as it is aiming to leave behind TSMC or Taiwan Semiconductors Manufacturing Co Ltd, the industry leader in chip making.”

Semiconductors are a popular component of electronic chips made for a variety of electronic devices, including solid-stage storage. In addition to consumer electronics, it plays a key role in the internet, communication, operation of bank ATMs, and other parts of social infrastructure. Thus, the semiconductor industry has driven the attention of key players in this segment like Samsung.

On Wednesday, Samsung Chips Electronics revealed its blueprint for the expansion of its chip manufacturing business, comprising semiconductors as it is aiming to leave behind TSMC or Taiwan Semiconductors Manufacturing Co Ltd, the industry leader in chip making.

Samsung, being a leading smartphone maker, has a large semiconductor business that is its main profit driver. The South Korean technology firm makes memory chips that go into laptops and data centers.

Samsung’s Chip Making Goals-

Chip Making to Automotive by 2027-

At the start of 2023, Samsung Electronics said that the company looks forward to start making chips with a 2 nanometer process in 2025. Moreover, Samsung is also eyeing to move on to high-performance computing in 2026 and to automotive in 2027.

Focus of better efficiency of chips-

The nanometer measurement is used to describe the size of each individual transistor on a chip. The smaller the transistor, the more it can fit on a single semiconductor. Typically, shrinking the nanometer size results in more powerful and efficient chips.

High-Performance Computing-

High-performance computing refers to chips used in data centres to train and deploy artificial intelligence apps, as Samsung seeks to capitalise on the technology’s growth, which has been fueled in part by the popularity of OpenAI‘s ChatGPT. Nvidia, the market leader in AI chips, manufactures its semiconductors with foundries such as TSMC.
