On Monday, General Motors, an American multinational automaker, decided to bring an all-electric version of its flagship model Cadillac Escalade later this year.

The Detroit-based automotive company stated that the new model of the SUV will be entitled the “Escalade IQ,”, which continues Cadillac’s EV naming strategy that so far comprises the Lyriq crossover and upcoming Celestiq ultra-luxury sedan.

An electric Escalade was expected, as Cadillac plans to transition completely to an electric vehicle brand by 2030.

The Escalade IQ is likely to have battery cells, motors, and technologies of the Ultium model which are also utilized to power and underpin the automaker’s next-generation EVs.

Although, just because it’s called a Cadillac Escalade, it doesn’t mean it’ll be similar to the brand’s iconic SUV which has an internal combustion engine. Earlier announced electric vehicles with names akin to General Motor’s traditional vehicles have design elements and technologies that are entirely different from their earlier versions.

A company’s executive declined to give any further information about the vehicle other than its existence and name. Analysts predict that the vehicle will go into production and be available for purchase as soon as next year.
