Datadog, A US-Based Observability Service Provider Brings Security Inbox for Engineers

Synopsis-

“Datadog unveiled Security Inbox, a new feature for engineers with which they can prioritize and remediate the most vital security checks affecting their production applications.”

Technology is something that offers an opportunity to create new products everyday, and when it comes to cybersecurity, the need gets larger. Today, every industry is getting digitalized or operated with the help of the internet. Engineering is not different and thus brings the requirement of securing production applications.

In the latest episode, Datadog unveiled Security Inbox, a new feature for engineers with which they can prioritize and remediate the most vital security checks affecting their production applications.

What is Datadog?

Datadog is a US-based observability service for supporting cloud-scale applications, offering monitoring of databases, servers, tools and services, through a SaaS-based data analytics platform.

What does this Security Inbox Do?

Security Inbox offers a comprehensive and actionable list of their most pressing security concerns to Datadog consumers. This feature automatically categorizes signals from Datadog security products related to vulnerabilities, threats, misconfigurations, and identity risks.

Most security products focus on detecting large quantities of particular risks, for example, runtime attacks, vulnerabilities, or misconfigurations. Engineers invest a considerable amount of time sorting through each type of risk and manually gathering relevant information from various sources, taking into account the environment’s context, to determine what they need to fix in their applications and infrastructure. However, numerous risks are related to each other and have a shared underlying cause.

Security Inbox can automatically consolidate a list of evidence from various sources, eliminating the need for manual and repetitive tasks. By utilizing the comprehensive security and observability data from Datadog, Security Inbox identifies and presents critical information through reports, alerts, and notifications, allowing users to concentrate on more important matters.

We are pleased to announce that Security Inbox for Cloud Security Management is now available to all Datadog customers. As part of this release, we are also introducing several new capabilities that are currently in public beta testing.

  • Cloud Security Management now identifies issues in both containers and hosts to further increase security coverage of customers.
  • With the new Cloud Infrastructure Entitlement Management (CIEM) capabilities, security teams can quickly identify which identities are utilizing their permissions and adjust them accordingly to follow the principle of least privileged access and achieve zero trust.

Now, Datadog’s Application Security Management includes detection of vulnerabilities at the code level in production applications. It also has integration with API Catalog to identify threats to customers’ application APIs.
